Honour our past, celebrate today and shape the future
Many of you joined us on 1st October - either remotely or in person - for a special event to mark 60 years as a college and a global education movement.
The day was a reminder of how far we have come - from a college 60 years ago open to just 54 boys to a global education movement spanning four continents. Today, 11,000 students from 155 countries attend one of UWC’s 18 schools.
Guest speakers on the day included First Minister of Wales Mark Drakeford, UWC President HM Queen Noor of Jordan, and Musimbi Kanyoro, Chair of the UWC International Board.
As Queen Noor commented, every one of you should be proud of your contribution for the part you have played in the story of UWC Atlantic. Thanks to your participation and support, we have been able to create an education community making a difference to tens of thousands of young people around the world. Long may that continue.
In such uncertain times, movements like UWC are perhaps needed more than ever before, and at UWC Atlantic we are really excited to have signed a historic agreement with the International Baccalaureate, which we believe will have a long-lasting impact on education globally.
As part of this, we will be launching a new education prototype with a focus on bringing about systems change to tackle some of the world’s most pressing challenges, including the environment and inequality. You can read more about that in this edition of the newsletter.
If you have time, please do take a look back at the ceremony livestream from the day. The history of UWC Atlantic video we showed is also available to watch in this edition of the newsletter.
In the meantime, here are just a handful of photos from the day!
